SOCW609 Generalist Field Internship
The purpose of the generalist field internship is to provide a setting for students to practice and acquire the core competencies of social work at the generalist level for work with individuals, families, groups, organizations, and communities. Emphasis is placed on developing knowledge, skills, values, and cognitive and affective processes and integrating content from the classroom in the field. Students take 9 course units across 3-4 quarters to complete a minimum of 450 hours of generalist internship experience at an agency approved and designated by the MSW program. The course instructor places the student in a field agency, oversees the internship, and provides regular learning support and mentorship to the student for their activities and experiences. The field instructor at the agency guides, supervises, and evaluates the student for progress and mastery of the core competencies. The course is graded Pass/Not Pass. Students must take generalist field units concurrently with the generalist didactic courses as specified in the MSW curricular plan. Exceptions may be allowed with special permission.
