CLIN657 Counseling Mandarin-Speaking Individuals and Families

This course provides an overview of the basic and essential clinical vocabulary, clinical skills, and culturally affirming assessment, preventions, interventions, and advocacy required to work with Mandarin-speaking and bilingual (Mandarin/English) Asian and Asian American clients from a wide range of ages, identities, and cultural contexts. Students have an opportunity to observe demonstrations of clinical applications, engage in Mandarin clinical practice, case conceptualization, and treatment planning, and examine the impact of cultural factors and variations on Mandarin-speaking clients? psychological symptoms, helping-seeking and coping behavior, and psychotherapy process and outcomes. A basic level of Mandarin language proficiency is required for this course.
