PRAC615S Practicum in Spanish
This is a minimum one-quarter 3-unit course of supervised field study experience in a clinical setting. Students will gain a range of counseling experience throughout PRAC615-SPANISH (a minimum of 40 hours of supervised direct clinical experience and 100 total hours) before advancing to INTR600-SPANIISH or 601 and INTR602 or 603-SPANISH (which will require a minimum of 240 hours of supervised direct clinical experience, with at least 600 total hours). The clinical experience will include counseling individuals (children or adults), families, or couples, and groups, some of which must be in Spanish. The course provides for the application of theory and the development of counseling skills under supervision with an emphasis on the development of language-concordant, culturally competent and socially just skills for professional clinical counselors as well as marriage and family therapists. This includes experience in applied therapeutic techniques; assessment; diagnosis; prognosis; treatment; issues of development, adjustment, and maladjustment; health and wellness promotion; professional writing, including documentation of services, treatment plans, and progress notes; how to find and use resources; and other recognized counseling interventions.
